SUMMARY:Belgian Beers Festival
DESCRIPTION:Advance MercPerk tickets on sale now for 11th annual\nCheers to Belgian Beers festival\, taking place June 2 and 3\nPORTLAND\, Ore. – March 20\, 2017 – The early bird gets the worm\, or in this case\, beer! Advance tickets are on sale now for Portland’s Cheers to Belgian Beers festival\, which features up to 70 Belgian-style beers brewed by Oregon craft brewers using the same single yeast strain. The 11th annual event will take place June 2 and 3 at The North Warehouse at 723 N. Tillamook St. Hours are 1pm to 9pm on Friday and 12pm to 8pm on Saturday.\n  \nDrink packages at the door costs $20 for a souvenir glass and eight drink tickets. Discount tickets are on sale now at MercPerks\, with two tasting glasses and 16 drink tickets for $28 ($40 value)\, while supplies last. The event is for ages 21 and over.\n  \nThis year’s featured yeast strain is Imperial Yeast B45 Gnome\, a yeast that creates crystal clear Belgian ales in a short amount of time. Gnome produces peach and apricot esters with a Belgian phenolic character that can be manipulated through temperature. It pairs well with hops\, while also complementing malt and caramel characters.\n  \nTo ensure the diversity of the yeast strain\, as well as show off the creativity of Oregon craft brewers\, the color and strength of each brewery’s beer is determined by a dart throw. More than 80 breweries took part in this year’s dart throw\, held on Jan. 16 at The Evergreen\, the private event space at the Loyal Legion. Depending on where the dart landed on the board\, a brewer was directed to brew a Belgian-style beer that will be either light or dark in color\, with amber as the midpoint; and either lower or higher in alcohol\, with six percent being the baseline. Four breweries hit a bullseye\, meaning they get to choose their color and strength.\n  \nPortland’s Cheers to Belgian Beers takes place inside The North Warehouse as well as outside in the tented parking lot. Food is available from Urban German Grill. Street parking is available\, but limited. Attendees are encouraged to take public transportation — the TriMet Bus Line 35 stops one block away and the Yellow Max Line stops two blocks away — or ride their bike\, with complimentary bike parking available.\n  \nThe festival is seeking volunteers\, who receive a glass\, 8 drink tickets\, a t-shirt and free admission after their shift. An OLCC servers permit is not required to participate as a volunteer server at this event. To sign up\, visit  https://www.events-connect.com/ctbb/volunteer.\n  \nCheers to Belgian Beers is produced by the Oregon Brewers Guild and sponsored by Boelter\, Imperial Yeast and the Portland Mercury. Follow @OregonCraftBeer on social media on Facebook\, Instagram and Twitter\, #ctbb17.\n  \nAbout the Oregon Brewers Guild\nThe Oregon Brewers Guild is a non-profit organization whose mission is to promote the state’s craft brewing industry and the common interests of its members. Founded in 1992\, the Oregon Brewers Guild is one of the nation’s oldest craft brewers associations. The Guild comprises 159 brewing companies\, 118 associate/supplier members and more than 3\,950 enthusiast members known as S.N.O.B.s (Supporters of Native Oregon Beer). SUMMARY:Willamette Valley Wineries' Association Present Memorial Weekend in Wine Country
DESCRIPTION:WILLAMETTE VALLEY WINERIES WELCOME SUMMER IN STYLE \nEver-Eventful Memorial Weekend in the Wine Country Returns \nWillamette Valley’s famed wine scene bursts to life this May\, delighting tasters with a weekend-long string of celebratory events known as Memorial Weekend in the Wine Country. Nearly 150 producers will open their tasting rooms\, barrel caves and rustic barn doors May 27th-29th\, inviting people in to savor the region’s memorable ode to local wine and the coming summer. \nWineries big and small\, young and old\, greet the public with vineyard tours\, barrel tastings\, patio parties\, live music\, food carts and more. Visitors can drink in a bit of wine country history at places like Argyle\, which celebrates its 30th anniversary this year\, or try something brand new at Cramoisi Vineyard in Dundee or Tumwater Vineyard in West Linn. \n“This is easily one of the finest times to be hopping from tasting room to tasting room\,” said Sue Horstmann of the Willamette Valley Wineries Association (WVWA)\, the non-profit behind the event. “Excitement for summer is high and winemakers all over the Valley are in the mood to celebrate with special releases\, classics from vintages long ago and just-bottled wines.” \nWorld renowned for its Pinot noir\, the Willamette Valley is also home to outstanding Chardonnay\, Pinot gris\, Riesling and Gamay noir. The region is equally admired for its hospitality\, which will be on full display Memorial Weekend. Visitors can enjoy everything from a clever food pairing to exclusive producers like Shea Wine Cellars\, open to the public just a few days each year. \nNamed 2016 Wine Region of the Year by Wine Enthusiast Magazine\, the Willamette Valley is home to the largest concentration of winegrowers in the state. The industry took root in 1965\, when an aspiring David Lett of Eyrie Vineyards planted the area’s first rows of Pinot noir. Over a half-century\, hundreds of vintners and countless awards later\, the Valley continues to dazzle visitors with its wines and the picturesque landscape from which they’re born. \nMemorial Weekend in the Wine Country takes place May 27th-29th at various venues throughout the Valley\, with hours mostly ranging from 11am to 5pm daily. The weekend caps off Oregon Wine Month\, a statewide promotional stretch honoring the state’s rich wine culture. For details on events\, hours\, locations and more\, visit willamettewines.com. \nAbout the Willamette Valley Wineries Association \nThe WVWA is a non-profit industry association dedicated to achieving recognition for Oregon’s acclaimed Willamette Valley as a premier Pinot noir-producing region. Currently\, the WVWA has more than 230 members representing wineries and tasting rooms throughout the Willamette Valley region from Portland to Eugene. The two-day event held over Memorial Day weekend will feature 30 goses from Saxony to Stumptown. From über traditional versions on this salty\, sour beer including imports from its source in Leipzig\, Germany to takes from around Portland and across the globe\, CITY of GOSES may require returning both days to fully enjoy the gamut gose has to offer. The fest takes place three blocks from the Albina/Mississippi Max station just one stop north of the Gose Quarter\, er\, Rose Quarter at LABrewatory (670 N. Russell St.). The event is Saturday and Sunday\, May 27-28 from 1 – 9 p.m.  Tickets are $15 in advance\, $20 at the gate. Tickets are available now at Merctickets.com/go/CityOfGoses . \n  \nNearly one year ago\, New Zealand native and Portland staple John Lovegrove texted pun-loving event-producer Brian Yaeger. The note read\, “Brace yourself…The City of Goses…That totally has a Brian Yaeger Presents feel about it.” Yep. In a world where sour beers are increasingly sought after\, lower-alcohol session ales have a foothold\, and warmer weather always calls for the most refreshing beer\, it’s no surprise today’s craft brewers are exploring gose (pronounced gose-uh). This wheat ale brewed with salt\, coriander\, and tart lactic acid originated between the 12th and 15th centuries in Goslar in Lower Saxony though it’s identified mostly with Leipzig in Saxony. Each participating brewery delivers a distinct spin via selected salts and additional ingredients. \n  \nAdmission includes a souvenir glass and additional tasting tickets will be available for $1 each. With one exception\, all beers will be one (1) ticket per four-ounce sample and four (4) tickets for a 14-ounce pour. Samples from the last keg on Earth of Cascade Brewing’s 2010 Summer Gose\, will be two (2) tickets and not available as a full pour. LABrewatory will have a selection of non-gose house beers available as well. \n  \nThe mostly Portland line-up includes: Baerlic\, Burnside\, Cascade\, Coalition (featuring hemp extracted CBD)\, The Commons\, Culmination\, Deschutes-PDX\, Ecliptic\, Great Notion\, Hopworks\, Little Beast\, Occidental (Germanic brewery’s first solo foray into German-style sour beer)\, Rogue\, Stormbreaker\, Widmer Bros.\, and Zoiglhaus (where braumeister Alan Taylor brews the original recipe from Goslar and has trained in Leipzig). Host brewery LABrewatory will have a collaboration with Cerveza Loba in Portland Sister City Guadalajara. \n  \nSome of the breweries from beyond the City of Roses include four from California—Anderson Valley\, Bruery Terreux (getting into the spirit with a gose featuring rose petals\, rose hips\, and rose water)\, Modern Times\, and Sierra Nevada—plus the GABF gold medal winning gose from Reuben’s in Seattle\, Oedipus (from Amsterdam)\, and naturally\, Ritterguts the traditional classic imported from Leipzig. \n  \nCITY of GOSES is all-ages event. This year capacity has been increased to 1100 places to keep up with demand for the hot tickets.\n\n“Half Corked Marathon is our favourite fun way to give people a taste of our region\,” says Jennifer Busmann\, transitional executive director for the Oliver Osoyoos Winery Association. “Visitors can enjoy spring sunshine and get a flavour of the wide range of wineries here during an unforgettable weekend in Oliver Osoyoos Wine Country.”\n\nRunners usually aim for their personal best in races but at the Half Corked Marathon the prizes are for creative costumes\, not race times\, and the refreshments along the way are some of Canada’s very best wines.  Inspired by the legendary Medoc Marathon in Bordeaux\, the Half Corked Marathon is an homage to one of Canada’s most decorated wine regions. Participants are encouraged to sample wines from the Oliver Osoyoos Winery Association along the way\, paired with celebrated regional cuisine from local chefs\, restaurateurs and café owners\, as they run or jog the 18km route.\n\nTickets for the marathon cost $165 plus tax per person. Tickets are in such hot demand that a lottery system will once again be used to distribute them this year. After sign up\, each lucky person randomly chosen from the database will have the chance to purchase two tickets for the event. Tickets for additional weekend events (including the pre-race Primavera! dinner) will be announced shortly.\n\nSpectators can join in the fun and enjoy wine tasting\, music and local food trucks at the Finish Line Lunch and throughout the weekend as participating wineries will be offering special events\, deals and open days. Local hotels\, resorts\, B&Bs and RV parks will also be offering special rates and packages for the weekend.\n\nCelebrations start on Friday\, May 26\, 2017\, with the spring-themed Primavera! dinner – an al-fresco gourmet pasta party set amongst the vineyards\, which is a chance to make new friends and load up on carbs before race day. On Saturday\, May 27\, 2017\, runners will set off in waves to run or jog the 18km route. The race trail leads through the incredible surrounds of Oliver Osoyoos Wine Country and brings together the region’s winemakers\, chefs and producers\, all of whom whole-heartedly embrace the event with refreshment and wine tasting stations along the route\, hearty picnics post-run and the highly anticipated pre-race Primavera! dinner.\n\nFor more information please visit the Oliver Osoyoos Winery Association website: http://www.oliverosoyoos.com/halfcorked.
