SUMMARY:Grand Opening of Schilling Cider House Portland
DESCRIPTION:The grand opening of the Schilling Cider House Portland will be held on Friday\, June 16 from 11:00am-Midnight. The first 500 growlers will be free with the purchase of a fill\, and we expect them to go fast!G \nABOUT SCHILLING CIDER HOUSE PORTLAND \nSchilling Cider House Portland is a fully operational cidery\, housing Schilling’s specialty barrel fermentation program led by one of the few female Cider Masters in the industry. While the Schilling Cider House Seattle has an impressive 32 craft hard cider taps\, the Schilling Cider House Portland will have a world record-breaking 50! The Schilling Cider House Portland will be a go-to destination for hard cider lovers and connoisseurs alike. Patrons will be able to expand their palates with tasting flights of some of the boldest and best hard ciders in the Northwest while enjoying a rotating\, locally sourced\, selection of food items from a gluten-free kitchen. \nIn addition to creating a tasteful and educational experience for patrons\, founders Mark Kornei and Colin Schilling completed custom design work by hand to ensure the quality of materials and create a communal and rustic atmosphere. “We built the Fremont location with our own hands and that kind of experience ties you to a location. It means something more when you do it yourself\,” says Mark.\nColin Schilling adds\, “We are ecstatic to finally see this project come together after two years of planning. Portland\, Oregon has some of the most educated and appreciative cider drinkers in the nation\, so moving our sour barrel program to the new location was an obvious choice. We hope we can add something amazing to the Portland cider scene. \nCIDER ETHOS \nSchilling Cider House Portland will follow the same cider ethos as the Seattle flagship location; it will only serve and sell craft hard ciders. This means all the ciders sold and poured at Schilling Cider Houses must be independently owned\, naturally gluten-free\, use no artificial colors\, flavors\, or preservatives\, and must be made using 100% fresh pressed juice! \nWHAT’S DIFFERENT ABOUT THE PORTLAND LOCATION \nIn addition to having 50 rotating taps of craft-only hard cider\, the Schilling Cider House Portland will feature an outdoor patio\, complete with deck seating and a cozy fire.\nTo sweeten the deal\, the Portland location will offer locally sourced sausages\, tots\, and other comfort food out of their gluten-free kitchen. There will also be a bottle selection focusing on hard to find international ciders\, staff picks\, and emerging cider makers. “There are a lot of great up-and-coming craft cider makers in Oregon\, and the focus of the Portland location is to highlight all of the great things they are doing\,” says Schilling. \nCUSTOM DESIGN AND HANDBUILT ADDITIONS \nAll the wood finishings\, tables\, and counter tops were hand built by Kornei and Schilling from 100-year-old wood reclaimed from a barn that was previously on the site. The largest table is over 20 feet long to highlight the community style seating\, and will weigh over a thousand pounds. A custom concrete fire table is the star of the outdoor patio\, making it perfect for enjoying upcoming long summer nights. \nABOUT SCHILLING CIDER \nIn 1881\, Colin Schilling’s great-great-grandfather\, August\, founded the Schilling Spice Company in San Francisco\, with a goal of bringing pure\, natural spices to everyone at a fair price. Today\, at Schilling Cider\, August’s core values are carried forward and paired with innovative cider-making techniques to produce quality and complex hard ciders. \nOriginally founded in Seattle\, Washington\, Schilling Cider captures the essence of the Pacific Northwest by creating ciders that are deliberately innovative\, bold\, and flavor forward. Schilling uses only 100% fresh pressed apples\, locally sourced non-GMO ingredients\, and individually hand-selected yeast strains to create a cider experience that is truly unique.

SUMMARY:Belgian Beers Festival
DESCRIPTION:Advance MercPerk tickets on sale now for 11th annual\nCheers to Belgian Beers festival\, taking place June 2 and 3\nPORTLAND\, Ore. – March 20\, 2017 – The early bird gets the worm\, or in this case\, beer! Advance tickets are on sale now for Portland’s Cheers to Belgian Beers festival\, which features up to 70 Belgian-style beers brewed by Oregon craft brewers using the same single yeast strain. The 11th annual event will take place June 2 and 3 at The North Warehouse at 723 N. Tillamook St. Hours are 1pm to 9pm on Friday and 12pm to 8pm on Saturday.\n  \nDrink packages at the door costs $20 for a souvenir glass and eight drink tickets. Discount tickets are on sale now at MercPerks\, with two tasting glasses and 16 drink tickets for $28 ($40 value)\, while supplies last. The event is for ages 21 and over.\n  \nThis year’s featured yeast strain is Imperial Yeast B45 Gnome\, a yeast that creates crystal clear Belgian ales in a short amount of time. Gnome produces peach and apricot esters with a Belgian phenolic character that can be manipulated through temperature. It pairs well with hops\, while also complementing malt and caramel characters.\n  \nTo ensure the diversity of the yeast strain\, as well as show off the creativity of Oregon craft brewers\, the color and strength of each brewery’s beer is determined by a dart throw. More than 80 breweries took part in this year’s dart throw\, held on Jan. 16 at The Evergreen\, the private event space at the Loyal Legion. Depending on where the dart landed on the board\, a brewer was directed to brew a Belgian-style beer that will be either light or dark in color\, with amber as the midpoint; and either lower or higher in alcohol\, with six percent being the baseline. Four breweries hit a bullseye\, meaning they get to choose their color and strength.\n  \nPortland’s Cheers to Belgian Beers takes place inside The North Warehouse as well as outside in the tented parking lot. Food is available from Urban German Grill. Street parking is available\, but limited. Attendees are encouraged to take public transportation — the TriMet Bus Line 35 stops one block away and the Yellow Max Line stops two blocks away — or ride their bike\, with complimentary bike parking available.\n  \nThe festival is seeking volunteers\, who receive a glass\, 8 drink tickets\, a t-shirt and free admission after their shift. An OLCC servers permit is not required to participate as a volunteer server at this event. To sign up\, visit  https://www.events-connect.com/ctbb/volunteer.\n  \nCheers to Belgian Beers is produced by the Oregon Brewers Guild and sponsored by Boelter\, Imperial Yeast and the Portland Mercury. Follow @OregonCraftBeer on social media on Facebook\, Instagram and Twitter\, #ctbb17.\n  \nAbout the Oregon Brewers Guild\nThe Oregon Brewers Guild is a non-profit organization whose mission is to promote the state’s craft brewing industry and the common interests of its members. Founded in 1992\, the Oregon Brewers Guild is one of the nation’s oldest craft brewers associations. The Guild comprises 159 brewing companies\, 118 associate/supplier members and more than 3\,950 enthusiast members known as S.N.O.B.s (Supporters of Native Oregon Beer). SUMMARY:Willamette Valley Wineries' Association Present Memorial Weekend in Wine Country
DESCRIPTION:WILLAMETTE VALLEY WINERIES WELCOME SUMMER IN STYLE \nEver-Eventful Memorial Weekend in the Wine Country Returns \nWillamette Valley’s famed wine scene bursts to life this May\, delighting tasters with a weekend-long string of celebratory events known as Memorial Weekend in the Wine Country. Nearly 150 producers will open their tasting rooms\, barrel caves and rustic barn doors May 27th-29th\, inviting people in to savor the region’s memorable ode to local wine and the coming summer. \nWineries big and small\, young and old\, greet the public with vineyard tours\, barrel tastings\, patio parties\, live music\, food carts and more. Visitors can drink in a bit of wine country history at places like Argyle\, which celebrates its 30th anniversary this year\, or try something brand new at Cramoisi Vineyard in Dundee or Tumwater Vineyard in West Linn. \n“This is easily one of the finest times to be hopping from tasting room to tasting room\,” said Sue Horstmann of the Willamette Valley Wineries Association (WVWA)\, the non-profit behind the event. “Excitement for summer is high and winemakers all over the Valley are in the mood to celebrate with special releases\, classics from vintages long ago and just-bottled wines.” \nWorld renowned for its Pinot noir\, the Willamette Valley is also home to outstanding Chardonnay\, Pinot gris\, Riesling and Gamay noir. The region is equally admired for its hospitality\, which will be on full display Memorial Weekend. Visitors can enjoy everything from a clever food pairing to exclusive producers like Shea Wine Cellars\, open to the public just a few days each year. \nNamed 2016 Wine Region of the Year by Wine Enthusiast Magazine\, the Willamette Valley is home to the largest concentration of winegrowers in the state. The industry took root in 1965\, when an aspiring David Lett of Eyrie Vineyards planted the area’s first rows of Pinot noir. Over a half-century\, hundreds of vintners and countless awards later\, the Valley continues to dazzle visitors with its wines and the picturesque landscape from which they’re born. \nMemorial Weekend in the Wine Country takes place May 27th-29th at various venues throughout the Valley\, with hours mostly ranging from 11am to 5pm daily. The weekend caps off Oregon Wine Month\, a statewide promotional stretch honoring the state’s rich wine culture. For details on events\, hours\, locations and more\, visit willamettewines.com. \nAbout the Willamette Valley Wineries Association \nThe WVWA is a non-profit industry association dedicated to achieving recognition for Oregon’s acclaimed Willamette Valley as a premier Pinot noir-producing region. Currently\, the WVWA has more than 230 members representing wineries and tasting rooms throughout the Willamette Valley region from Portland to Eugene.
