SUMMARY:Third Annual BIPOC Block Party
DESCRIPTION:Our Legacy Harvested (OLH) is hosting its third annual BIPOC Block Party\, an opportunity to connect with fellow community members in a lively market setting\, on Saturday\, Nov. 5. They will be shutting down the block in front of Mac Market in McMinnville for a full afternoon and evening celebrating harvest\, diversity\, and their inaugural “Cru” of harvest interns. The event will bring together BIPOC artisans\, chefs\, brewers\, vintners and more\, with live music on the streets and interactive activities for the whole family. \nOur Legacy Harvested will be honoring its inaugural class of harvest interns at the event with a graduation ceremony. The group of four interns from across the country will have completed their four-month internship program\, working during the harvest season to learn about wine production on-site at Oregon wineries. Denzel Green is interning at Willakenzie Estate\, Marcy Alcantar-Marshall and Raven Blake are interning at Adelsheim Vineyard\, and Dr. Kimberley Dockery is currently taking her WSET 2 and her internship centers around her desires to accomplish opening her own business with a vegan twist. The Wine Production Internship launched in August 2022 and focuses on vineyards and production at the winery. The hands-on experience ranges from vine to wine\, including everything from winemaking\, managing a vineyard\, production activities such as bottling\, blending\, determining the brix\, testing when to pick\, and learning about cost and the many other decisions made at a winery. OLH wants to show all of the different ways the interns can make an impact on the industry. \nTickets are $20 and include entry\, live entertainment\, a Block Party tote bag\, Govino wine glass\, and sunglasses. Tickets are available online here\, with the option for additional donations to Our Legacy Harvested. \nMoney raised from the block party will support Our Legacy Harvested and its mission of educating\, advancing and empowering the BIPOC community in the wine industry. The event also supports the nonprofit’s long-term goal of building a permanent campus\, used to host pop-up events\, fundraisers\, dinners\, educational seminars\, and to foster the growing and evolving BIPOC wine community. \n“The phenomenal community support for Our Legacy Harvested and the inaugural interns has been overwhelming.” said Tiquette Bramlett\, Founder of OLH. “What an incredible moment to see a dream I had in March 2020 come to life with this incredible group of individuals. I hope everyone can come out to meet them and celebrate their graduation\, while supporting the next class of interns with your presence at this fun event.” \nThe next four-month internship program from Our Legacy Harvested is a Direct-to Consumer (DTC) Internship launching in May 2023 and focusing on hospitality and front of house operations. The hands-on experience includes working under the DTC lead at the winery with exposure to many facets of the hospitality business and working with the team including front of house manager\, wholesale business\, event specialist\, wine club manager\, shipping\, and general manager. Interns will learn budgeting\, sales strategies\, marketing\, customer relations\, inventory management\, and all activities related to tasting room operation. Applications will open in December 2022 to BIPOC individuals nationwide. Next year’s harvest internship program will expand internationally\, with programs available in New Zealand and France\, in addition to the Willamette Valley.
