SUMMARY:Uncommon Wine Festival 2017
DESCRIPTION:Under-The-Radar Wines Flock to Vista Hills Vineyard \n-Treehouse Tasting Room Hosts 8th Annual Uncommon Wine Festival- \nThe Uncommon Wine Festival (UWF) will return on July 9th for an afternoon devoted to petite\, up-and-coming Oregon wine labels. Established by Vista Hills Vineyard in 2010\, this daylong gathering showcases wines even the most diehard aficionados would be hard pressed to find. \nThis year’s lineup includes A Cheerful Note Cellars\, Leah Jorgensen Cellars\, Fossil & Fawn\, Paetra Wine Company\, Hundred Suns Wine\, Martin Woods and Joyful Noise Wine. Many of the labels are one-person operations with limited distribution and a small portfolio of experimental and hard to find wines. As such\, winemakers tend to be on hand\, offering unique insight into their methodologies\, approaches and interpretations of vintages. \n“UWF has become a Treehouse Tasting Room tradition and one of the most anticipated events we host all year\,” said Dave Petterson\, winemaker and general manager at Vista Hills Vineyard. “As a small producer in a big industry\, we understand the importance of deserved exposure and creating wines that truly stand out. The UWF excels on both accounts.” \nWhile Pinot Noir will make a prominent showing at the UWF\, other varietals like Gamay Noir\, Gewurztraminer and Cabernet Franc will be on hand\, often crafted in atypical fashions. Guests can sample wines and purchase bottles to take home. Accompanying the wine will be pizzas from Red Hills Market’s mobile oven. Vista Hills will be pouring some of its own micro-production offerings as well. \nThe Uncommon Wine Festival is a launch pad of sorts\, having featured many labels on the cusp of success and expansion. Past featured labels include Teutonic Wine Company\, Fausse Piste\, Love & Squalor\, Jackalope Cellars\, Guillen Family Wines\, Johan Vineyards and many more. \nUncommon Wine Festival 2017 takes place at The Treehouse Tasting Room at Vista Hills\, in Dayton. The event kicks off at 11 a.m. and goes until 5 p.m. on Vista Hills’ stunning outdoor patio and grounds overlooking its estate vineyard and the Willamette Valley and Coastal Range beyond. \nThe tasting fee is $35 and includes samples of several works from every producer on hand. Attendees are encouraged to arrive early as some wines tend to run out toward the end of the event. \nFor more information about the Uncommon Wine Festival\, please visit www.vistahillsvineyard.com or email info@vistahillsvineyard.com.

SUMMARY:Hood River Kriekfest
DESCRIPTION:2nd Annual Kriekfest Celebrates Cherry Beers (and Ciders) in Oregon’s Hood River Valley on June 24 \nFamily-friendly event takes place on “the Fruit Loop” among cherry orchards \n \nAfter last year’s inaugural Kriekfest sold out\, it was clear that for 2017 the event would have to return cheerier and cherrier. There will be 30 sour cherry beers\, ciders\, and wines including 11 new brands this year\, The largest celebration devoted exclusively to barrel-aged cherry beverages will take over the rural town of Parkdale 60 miles east of Portland. Highway 35\, which runs from the riverside town of Hood River\, is nicknamed the Fruit Loop for its fertile farms including abundant cherry orchards. The host venue\, Solera Brewery\, offers breathtaking views of iconic Mt. Hood and the surrounding orchards. Kriekfest 2017 tickets are now available at merctickets.com/go/Kriekfest. They are $25 [including 8 tickets for 4-ounce pours (starting at 2 tickets) and a commemorative glass] online and limited to 750. The event is expected to sell-out again\, but if available admission will be $30 at the gate (4945 Baseline Rd.) on Saturday\, June 24\, 2017. A package that includes transportation from Portland to Parkdale and back via the Brewvana bus is available online for $100 and includes 3 extra tickets. A limited number of rooms are available at Hood River Inn when mentioning “Kriekfest” until June 1. Designated drivers and minors will be admitted free. \n  \nKriek\, Flemish for cherry\, is a four-centuries-old style of spontaneously-fermented\, lambic ales aged on cherries (pits and all). World-class examples imported from Belgium for Kriekfest include Brasserie Cantillon\, Brouwerij Drei Fonteinen\, and Hanssens Artisanaal. Cherry-growing regions are natural for such beers so it’s no surprise the Hood River Valley’s Belgian-inspired breweries make excellent krieks. The breweries in the Gorge featured at the fest include hosts Solera plus Logsdon Farmhouse Ales\, Pfriem Family Brewers\, and Double Mountain Brewing . Combined with the fecund Willamette Valley\, Oregon cherry farmers harvest over 13\,000 acres of cherries. \n  \nAmong the first beers created at Solera in 2012 were wild ales with local cherries. The festival was initially conceived in 2013 when beer writer and festival producer Brian Yaeger and brewmaster Jason Kahler were chatting in Solera’s back patio. The celebration of cherry-laced libations is family-friendly with live music and delicious food. Attendees are encouraged to camp in the valley for the weekend and explore the breweries\, cideries\, and farms throughout the Columbia River Gorge. SUMMARY:Organic Craft BrewFest
DESCRIPTION:New Organic Craft BrewFest to take place June 23-25 at Overlook Park \nThe Organic Craft BrewFest will debut June 23 through June 25 at Overlook Park\, 1599 N Fremont St.\, in Portland. Event hours are Noon to 9pm Friday and Saturday and Noon to 5pm Sunday. The event will present 60 organically brewed craft beverages\, including beer\, cider and mead\, as well as food carts\, sustainability-oriented vendors and nonprofits\, a soda garden for minors and designated drivers\, games for adults\, and a children’s area with face painting and activities – all in a beautiful park setting. \nThe Organic Beer Fest focuses on raising awareness about organically brewed beverages and sustainable living. The event serves up 60 organically brewed products\, with styles ranging from ciders to cream ales\, ambers to lagers\, and fruit beers to IPAs. All the products have been brewed using a minimum of 70% organic ingredients\, per USDA guidelines. \nAdvance packages cost $25 per individual and include the festival cup\, 15 drink tickets\, a wristband\, and free re-entry all weekend (with wristband & cup). Packages at the door cost $25 per individual and include the festival cup\, 10 drink tickets\, a wristband\, and free re-entry all weekend (with wristband & cup). Advance packages are on sale now through Bold Type Tickets at http://www.merctickets.com/events/43891630/organic-craft-brewfest. \nDesignated drivers may purchase a ticket for $5 at the door\, which includes handcrafted Crater Lake Soda and a bottle of water; designated drivers are not allowed to consume any alcohol. Minors under the age of 21 receive free admission\, but must be accompanied by a parent. Leashed dogs accompanied by responsible owners are welcome. \nMost products cost one ticket for a taste and four tickets for a fill. Select products\, including some beers and most meads and ciders\, may cost extra tickets. Additional drink tickets are available at the festival for $1 apiece. \nThe festival encourages responsible drinking and urges patrons to take advantage of the MAX Light Rail; the Yellow Line Overlook Park Station is adjacent to the festival. Attendees can also take advantage of the Hopworks Urban Brewery Bike Corral\, where volunteers watch over bikes for free. Patrons receive an extra ticket with a validated Tri-Met ticket or a ticket from the Hopworks Bike Corral (one discount per person). \nThe goal of the Organic Craft BrewFest is to promote and celebrate the spirit of organic brewing. In the United States\, an organic product is considered truly organic when the product bears the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s official USDA Certified Organic seal; has been certified organic by an accredited organic certifying agency; and contains 95% or more organic ingredients. Products can also be made with organic ingredients\, meaning the product contains at least 70% organic ingredients\, excluding added water and salt. Organizations that sell less than $5\,000 worth of organic products annually are not required to get certification; many of the products at this festival fall into this category. \nThe Organic Craft BrewFest benefits the Timbers Army 107IST (Independent Supporters Trust)\, whose mission is to support soccer in and around Portland\, from the grassroots to the highest professional level. The 107IST is a member-based non-profit organization open to anyone who loves soccer\, the Timbers/Thorns\, and Portland. \nView the list of participants\, buy tickets\, volunteer\, and learn more at OrganicBrewFest.com.
