Rye Beer Fest

The 6th Annual Rye Beer Fest Tap List Announced

PORTLAND, Ore. – June 8th, 2017 – The 6th Annual Rye Beer Fest features 24 diverse rye beers and 1 cider.

The Rye Beer Fest, a celebration of the revival of rye beers, will be held Saturday, June 17th, 2017 from 11 am to 9 pm at Happy Valley Station Food Cart Pod (13551 SE 145th Ave, Happy Valley, OR 97015). This year the festival is benefitting New Avenues For Youth.

There is no cost to enter the festival, but a $10 package is required to drink beer. This includes an official tasting glass and four drink tickets. Additional tickets can be purchased for $1 a piece. A majority of the beers will cost one ticket for a four-ounce pour or four tickets for a full glass. A few of the beers may require multiple tickets. Purchase your tickets in advance and save money by gaining additional drink tickets. Get eight tickets and an official rye beer fest tasting glass for $10 online at www.ryebeerfest.com.

As always festival organizer Kerry Finsand tries to curate a beer selection that highlights the impact of rye in a beer. Festival attendees will have the opportunity to try rye beers with a subtle hint of rye while others will feature more aggressive spicy characteristics.

After a few years of unsuccessfully getting a brewer to brew a rare style of rye beer called Kvass, this year it happened. Widmer Brother’s Brewer Thomas Bleigh brewed Kvass is that?, a sour fermented beverage that is traditional in the Slavic and Baltic regions made from old rye bread. The drink is low ABV, salty and tart and comes in at only 1.5%.

This is our first year of ever having a cider in our festival as well. Portland Cider Company has made Brigid, a rye hopped cider (not gluten free) in the hopes of bringing beer and cider lovers together.

If you are not that adventurous enjoy award winning IPA’s or fruit beers, amongst other styles.
