-Treehouse Tasting Room Hosts 8th Annual Uncommon Wine Festival-
The Uncommon Wine Festival (UWF) will return on July 9th for an afternoon devoted to petite, up-and-coming Oregon wine labels. Established by Vista Hills Vineyard in 2010, this daylong gathering showcases wines even the most diehard aficionados would be hard pressed to find.
This year’s lineup includes A Cheerful Note Cellars, Leah Jorgensen Cellars, Fossil & Fawn, Paetra Wine Company, Hundred Suns Wine, Martin Woods and Joyful Noise Wine. Many of the labels are one-person operations with limited distribution and a small portfolio of experimental and hard to find wines. As such, winemakers tend to be on hand, offering unique insight into their methodologies, approaches and interpretations of vintages.
“UWF has become a Treehouse Tasting Room tradition and one of the most anticipated events we host all year,” said Dave Petterson, winemaker and general manager at Vista Hills Vineyard. “As a small producer in a big industry, we understand the importance of deserved exposure and creating wines that truly stand out. The UWF excels on both accounts.”
While Pinot Noir will make a prominent showing at the UWF, other varietals like Gamay Noir, Gewurztraminer and Cabernet Franc will be on hand, often crafted in atypical fashions. Guests can sample wines and purchase bottles to take home. Accompanying the wine will be pizzas from Red Hills Market’s mobile oven. Vista Hills will be pouring some of its own micro-production offerings as well.
The Uncommon Wine Festival is a launch pad of sorts, having featured many labels on the cusp of success and expansion. Past featured labels include Teutonic Wine Company, Fausse Piste, Love & Squalor, Jackalope Cellars, Guillen Family Wines, Johan Vineyards and many more.
Uncommon Wine Festival 2017 takes place at The Treehouse Tasting Room at Vista Hills, in Dayton. The event kicks off at 11 a.m. and goes until 5 p.m. on Vista Hills’ stunning outdoor patio and grounds overlooking its estate vineyard and the Willamette Valley and Coastal Range beyond.
The tasting fee is $35 and includes samples of several works from every producer on hand. Attendees are encouraged to arrive early as some wines tend to run out toward the end of the event.
